Striding Arches

Moniaive is situated in an area of great natural beauty in the heart of Nithsdale, Dumfries & Galloway. The village is now linked to the Southern Upland Way www.southernuplandway.gov.uk as a result of the installation of Andy Goldsworthy’s Striding Arches and the development of Cairnhead Forest as a community resource

OTHER PLACES TO VISIT

Glencairn churchyard and Renwick Monument, Ayr Street, Moniaive

The parish of Glencairn has a strong Covenanting history. Stones in the churchyard near the thirteenth-century ruined church commemorate the deaths of Covenanters shot in the parish. A monument to the Rev. James Renwick who was born in Moniaive and was the last martyr to be executed in Edinburgh’s Grassmarket, stands on the outskirts of the village.   Further information from – www.glencairnparish.co.uk
